The Promise of Spring

I love that spring is full of promise. It is so evident in everything that it seems to fill the very air. As the cool breeze brushes gently upon my face the promise is whispered into my heart and soul. Spring is the promise of new life. The spring promise is redemption.

Signs of Spring

Bright sunshine that soaks into my skin warming me through,

removing all signs of winters chill.

The sound of the song birds, the buzzing of busy bees,

and lawn mowers up and down the street.

The explosion of color as the hills go from brown to green

and flowers bloom all around.

The smell of fresh cut grass, newly tilled soil, scented blooms,

and maybe the scent of a light spring shower.

Taste the fresh sweet strawberries, pineapples,

and apricots or the earthy mushrooms and asparagus.

The flowers join the bears awaking, after a cold winter’s hibernation. The birds return and sing their songs of joyful praise. A celebration of spring and the promise of new life that it brings.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”

1 Peter 1:3

What is Spring

I looked up “spring” on dictionary.com and found some pleasantly surprising entries. Here are my favorites.

  • to be released from a constrained position, as by resilient or elastic force or from the action of a spring:
  • to come into being, rise, or arise within a short time (usually followed by up):
  • the first stage and freshest period:

Spring Promise

Spring is fresh, crisp, bright and colorful. Most of all spring is a new beginning, new life. Spring is the promise of a fresh start, new hope, new joy, and new life. I always think it must have been spring when Lazarus walked out of his tomb. Look at what Jesus said to Lazarus’s sister, as Lazarus lay dead in his tomb.

“Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never dies. Do you believe this?”

John 11:25-26

How appropriate that we remember the death and resurrection of Christ in the spring. After all He brought us the new life that matters most. In His sacrificial death and resurrection, he conquered sin and the grave.

Because of Christ’s sacrifice we have access to an open relationship with God our Creator. When we have the open relationship with our Lord then we have no reason to fear death, as we have been born again. Born into a life of the spirit and our spirit is with Christ now and for all eternity.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;”

2 Cor 5:17-18

As we think on the gift offered by the work completed on the cross, here are a couple other posts on forgiveness, The Cost of Forgiveness or The Third Side of Forgiveness

Spring is a Celebration of God’s Promise

“Before the resurrection of Christ, the Holy Spirit came upon individual only on certain occasions for special tasks. But now, after the resurrection, Christ through the Holy Spirit dwells in the heart of every believer to give us supernatural power in living our daily lives.”

Billy Graham

“Our old history ends with the cross; Our new history begins with the resurrection.”

Watchman Nee

“This week, whatever you may be facing, remember that in three short days, the disciples and family of Christ went from hopelessness to hopeful – from devastation to celebration, from defeat to victory! Because of the cross and the tomb, you have a hope in Christ.”

Sheri Easter

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:22-23

God’s mercies are like a fresh new spring every single morning, new regardless of what did or didn’t happen yesterday.

As we celebrate Easter I pray that we will be reminded that we have been given new life in Christ, and that He gives us fresh mercy for each new day.

Grace and Peace,

Debra Jean
