Fear is not from God, the Bible tells us over and over "fear not" and we know that God is mighty, and yet when fear and doubts creep in the heart doesn't always agree with what we "know" So, what do we do when fear is crippling us? #myweaknesshisstrength #Godlywoman #fearnot #Godisgreater #faith #Bible #christainblogger

6 Do’s When Fear Feels Bigger Than God

I don’t know about you, but I struggle with fear. Just moving through all the newness of trying to create a blog makes me want to run. I am good with computers they don’t scare me. But this, this scares me. Why is obedience so scary? I should be filled with joy as I walk closer to God than ever before. However, the enemy doesn’t want me obedient to God. And to be honest, I have to admit that I often see the things of this world as more powerful than an invisible god. Now I know that this is not true, but it often feels very true. I am still working on the whole detachment from the things of this world, and building my treasures in heaven.

This worlds judgment, and what feels to me like persecution (as slight as it may be) is very real and tangible to me where I sit today. So, I must remind myself that I don’t serve an invisible god, I serve, obey, and love the God of all god’s, the one true God. Creator of the universe. He is awesome, and all powerful, loving and kind, and most of all He cares about me. He cares enough to know my every thought, He knows what hurts my heart and He hurts with me. He loves like this world will never be able to even understand, His love is unconditional.

Therefore, I have come up with 6 – Do’s for when my fear feels bigger than my God?

  1. Pray, pray continually! There are 3 ways I pray, silently, just a conversation between me and my God. I also pray from my knees this is a very effective when you are feeling overwhelmed, from my knees I usually verbalize my prayer and find a few tears, finally, I write out my prayers, in a prayer journal. You can give a 2 second thought to God multiple times throughout your day, no matter where you are or what you are doing (continual prayer). Get on your knees and cry out to God, He can take it. If you’re mad at Him tell Him, because He knows your heart He already knows your anger so there is nothing to accomplish by keeping it to yourself. David often cried out in anger and confusion to God, David didn’t hide his feelings, he poured them out to God, and so can we.
  2. Praise the Lord! Afte
r David told God how it was and how he felt he would then spend time remembering the goodness, and the greatness of God. Don’t forget the God you love is able. He is able to do far more than you can image, don’t limit Him by thinking there is only 1 way out of your mess. Keep God big and mighty, all powerful, the beginning and the end. There is nothing He can’t do. Praise God in your prayers and throughout your day. You will find as you focus on God goodness and praise Him, His peace will start to work its way into your situation. I have started a composition book that I write out praises from the Bible, it is always helpful to pray scripture, and it is always uplifting to praise the Lord. “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my Strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies” Psalm 18:2-3
  3. Repent of your fear and doubt! I have found fear, doubt, and insecurity a daily battle lately and have asked for forgiveness and God’s help in fighting this. I see very clearly that this is an enemy attack, and that I need to battle against it. Yet, the battle is slowing me down from doing God’s will for my days. God has not given me a spirit of fear. Yet I find myself there all too often, and therefore, I feel a very real need to repent as a means of fighting against it.
  4. Put on your armor! Read Ephesians 6:10-20 every morning and as you read it mentally put on the armor as Paul goes through each piece. Don’t be fooled, when you are walking with God and drawing closer to Him, our enemy will see and will attack. Spiritual Warfare is not a joke, it is very real and you need to know this if you are to defeat the enemy. When I have been in hard Spiritual Warfare, there comes a point where you feel like you are just barely hanging on. Hang on, and hang on some more, don’t give up. When you feel like you can’t take anymore hang on, God is with you through the entire battle, He will never leave you. Although, you may often feel very alone, hang on, when you get through it you will see the amazing work God was working through your perseverance. Remember, you are fighting a very real battle, because it is fought in the spiritual realm it is often more difficult. Take heart, our Lord and Savior has already won the war, this is just one of your battles. God will reign victorious.
  5. “I Will Trust God!” Write this statement on a sticky note every day with a permanent marker, put it somewhere visible for
you on that day. Do this for 30
days. This was a challenge that a visiting Pastor gave with a very powerful sermon. I believe this can be a very powerful tool. If you feel led to tweak the idea a little do. I write “I will Trust and Obey Jesus” and I keep this song in my head and on my lips all day. Others have told me they put “I will trust God for____” fill in the blank with what you are worried about. One of the most difficult and yet basic calls on the Christian life is to trust in God. He is able! He holds the universe in his hands. Will you trust God?
  6. Have Faith! God is good, He is an awesome, all powerful, all loving God. His Word tells us

“Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord they God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Deuteronomy 31:6

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Isaiah 43:2

Now, I know very well this next statement is much easier said than done, however, if we are Christians, the children of God, we should not only believe every Word from Him we should live it. Trust in God, your Maker, Creator of all heaven and earth, allow Him to bring you into His fullness.

I would also encourage everyone, if you don’t already, make time every day to spend with the Lord. Read His Word and speak to Him in prayer. He truly longs to spend time with you, He loves you. Make it a habit. I don’t start my day without at least an hour with God, I am normally up by 5 am so I can have this time and still make it to work. Honestly, if you just take 10 minutes in prayer and 10 minutes reading your Bible, you will be refreshed. I am sure you can work 20 minutes into your day for your Lord and Savior.

If you would like to share your commitment either to write “I will trust God” for 30 days, or to find time to spend with God. I would love to hear about it. If you already spend time with God each day and are willing to share how you work it into your schedule, it may help others see how they could make it work in their schedule, I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

May God richly bless you today!
